Yeti Fumi

It's my last Tuesday as a guest designer at Yumi & Fumi Handmade. I want to thank them for having me as a guest--it's been very fun!

This week I inked up Yeti Fumi. I know it's after Christmas but I've never been one to be on time with holiday cards! LOL!

I kept this card super simple so it would mail easy. She's colored with copics with some sponging around the edges and then I used more scraps that I found in my stash. Some sponging, a border punch for accents and some touches of sparkle with a copic glitter pen finish the card.

Have a wonderful day and again, thank you to Yumi & Fumi Handmade for having me as a guest!! If you are ringing in the New Year tonight, please do so safely!!

December Challenge Reminder

Hello Everyone!

Team Fumi is popping in from their holiday break to share some inspiration for our current monthly challenge.  We've only got a few players linked up so hoping this post will get every one of you in the mood for a fun challenge.  As a reminder here is the photo inspiration:

And here are some beautiful inspirations from Team Fumi.

First up is Sheena with a beautiful gold and cream theme featuring Winter Fumi.  Love how everything is so clean and pretty...

Next up is another beautiful gold and white card from Blankina...

Love all the texture going on here and doesn't Winter Yumi look ready to enjoy the outdoors?  Beautiful!  Let's keep it going shall we?

Here's a fantastic tissue box dress-up from Kathy featuring Winter Yumi.  See, you can even dress up a plain tissue box with some fun paper, a ribbon and a cute image.  Great idea!!

Are you getting jazzed up?!!  Well just wait, there's more!  You're going to enjoy this next project from DT Melissa.  She's ready to ring in the New Year with this gorgeous card featuring Fumi...

What an awesome idea to include that pocket watch behind Fumi.  The different elements here are so cool...  Now it's "time" to share our next project...

Our very own Team Fumi Captain, Denise, used Yumi with Fan to create this gorgeous bookmark.  She is so ready to ring in the New Year.  Look at all the gorgeous gold and whites here and the bling!!  You can't ring in the New Year properly without some bling...

Love her silver and gold kimono.  And last in the bunch is me, I decided to create a calendar for 2014.  I was inspired a little by former DT gal Sandie Dunne's awesome card...  Here's my version featuring Yumi, AJ, Fumi with Messenger Bag and Chase...  I also embraced some white space, thanks Danni:)

Ahhh wasn't that wonderful?  Has Team Fumi given you all enough inspiration to come and join our current monthly challenge?  Sweet!  You still have until Friday to link up on our original post here.  We're all waiting to see how many more of you will join.  Don't keep us waiting! ;)

Best wishes for a fabulous New Year and thank you all for supporting Yumi & Fumi Handmade, cheers!

Hugs,
Team Fumi

Embrace the White Space!

I'll admit it, I'm afraid of white space on a card most of the time. I always feel like it needs to be filled...needs something on it! Well today I decided to embrace the white space and just let it be.

I must admit, I really like how this turned out. I think I need to learn to embrace the white space more often!

For this card I used Fumi. She is colored with copics and then fussy cut out. I added a few hexagons from SU, a sentiment and some candy dots and voila', the card was done!

What about you? Do you like white space? use it often? or do you shy away from it??

Have a wonderful day and Merry Christmas Eve!

Yumi

Time for another guest post for Yumi & Fumi Handmade!! This week I was in the mood for butterflies! Hehehe..I'm always in the mood for butterflies.

I saw a tutorial on using the copic airbrush system and getting snowflakes in the background but can't remember where I saw it but anyway, I thought maybe I could do the same with some butterflies and sponging some ink.

First I stamped my image--the super fun Yumi--and cut it out using a nestie die. I left the die in place so I could sponge the edges too. Then I made a mask for Yumi and then I placed some punched butterflies down with some repositionable glue.

Next I just carefully sponged on my ink and then carefully removed my butterflies.

I then let out a sigh of relief that it actually worked! A fun way to make a background and the possibilities are endless because you can use any die cut image!!

To finish the card I colored Yumi with copics and paper pieced her shirt. Then I paired her with some Cosmo Cricket Wanted papers and used a Martha Stewart Butterfly border punch.

I also added an image and strip of patterned paper to the inside to finish the card!

Thanks for stopping by and hope you have a wonderful day!!

Fumi with Bear Backpack

For today's post for Yumi & Fumi Handmade I decided to use up some scraps that I had and also use the super adorable Fumi with Bear Backpack stamp~~(you can find that stamp HERE!)

I admit it~~I'm a scrap hoarder. It pains me to throw away scraps of paper. I'm getting a bit better at it but I still have tons and tons of scraps to use. I always challenge myself to find fun ways to use them, like today's card. Adding strips with some colored cardstock, ribbon and a few pearls was super easy and super fun!!

Do you save your scraps? Do you use them?? if not, why not challenge yourself to use some today!!

Showcase Thursday - Frosty Accents

Brrr! My Thursday technique has good timing for many of us as we are set upon by frigid temps and frozen precipitation.

There are many products you can use to make snow and ice on your cards. The obvious choices are white flocking powder for snow and some kind of shiny glaze (like Glossy Accents) for ice. But you can get the most realistic effects by combining products. For snow on the ground, I like to mix white flocking powder with ultrafine glitter. The glitter gives it that sparkly, frozen look. For snowballs, snow drifts and ice, I like to apply chunky glitter with a top layer of Glossy Accents. It looks frosty and adds great dimension! (It also nicely conceals the rough edges of chunky glitter - bonus!)

Here's my card featuring Yumi. I made her snowball by drawing a circular shape on a scrap of cardstock and then applying Martha Stewart chunky glitter and Glossy Accents.

Here's a closeup. Hopefully you can see the sparkly accents!

Personally, I have a lot more fun playing with this kind of snow. No coat, hat, gloves or scarf required! :)

If you're one of the lucky/unlucky ones stuck inside this weekend thanks to the snow, give this technique a try!

Winter Yumi

For the entire month of December Yumi & Fumi Handmade is having an inspiration challenge~~you can find the details, HERE~~so I thought I would play along.

Here is the inspiration photo~

Isn't it gorgeous? I started out doing really well by coloring up Winter Yumi in gold and then I took a side road I think, LOL! I must admit, inspiration photo challenges are not my strong suit! I hope that I at least get a gold star for effort!!

Winter Yumi is colored with copics and then fussy cut out. I added a bit of Smooch Illuminate to her legs to look like she has sparkly tights on. Then I paired her with some Basic Grey Jovial papers and some wood veneers to finish the card.

I also finished the inside by stamping the image in Delicata Gold ink and adding a strip of the designer paper.

If you get a chance, I'd love to see you join in the fun with this month's challenge at Yumi & Fumi Handmade!!
